Surroundings

This property is located on the edge of the SugarCity area, formerly known as the CSM Suikerfabriek. A vibrant environment full of contradictions; old and new go hand in hand here, just like peace and quiet and nature and the liveliness of a city. The Houtrak nature reserve (recreation area Spaarnwoude) is within walking distance and is a lovely area for outdoor activities.

Since 2000, Cobraspen Group has been redeveloping the former CSM site into a lively new area under the name SugarCity. At the end of 2020, the 20,000 m2 ‘Amsterdam The Style Outlets’ opened: a high-end fashion outlet with over 100 shops. Besides retail, there will also be cafés and restaurants, a marina and a large supermarket.

Accessibility

Haarlemmerstraatweg 15 is located opposite the Halfweg-Zwanenburg railway station. As Halfweg is named after its geographical location halfway between Amsterdam and Haarlem, both cities are easily accessible, whether by car or public transport. In just 8 minutes you can be at Haarlem station and in 10 minutes at Amsterdam Central Station. The house is located on the N200, with connections to various A-roads.

History

The sugar factory opened in Halfweg in 1863. Sugar beets were processed into sugar here. The factory was owned by the Centrale Suiker Maatschappij for many years and until its closure in 1992, sugar was produced here. The houses along Haarlemmerstraatweg were built as overseers’ and workers’ houses and have been inhabited to this day. At the time of the sugar factory, the property at Haarlemmerstraatweg 15 was used as a first aid post. The photo on the right shows the house, although it was painted white at the time of the photo (1972).
