History

In the second half of the nineteenth century, Kenaupark and the surrounding buildings were built as part of the bulwark of the old city’s defenses. By Jan David Zocher to be exact. The name comes from Kenau Simonsdochter Hasselaer, a well-known resistance fighter who played an important role in the defense of Haarlem during the Eighty Years’ War. Although the houses at the Kenaupark were originally built to house Haarlem’s considerable families, over the years they have had other uses. It is now time to restore this monumental building to its former glory and original function, so that you and the people of Haarlem can enjoy its history for a long time to come.
