Villa Sonnewende

The landmark ‘Villa Sonnewende’ in Overveen immediately stands out because of its size and special architectural design. You arrive at this spacious family home via a grand driveway. A portico supported by columns topped with beautiful capitals offers an imposing welcome.

The entire villa exudes a generous ambiance and grandeur of days gone by. High and beautifully ornamented ceilings, marble fireplaces, authentic crockery cabinets, cast iron radiators with plate warmers, a completely renovated lift from 1930, the original wall tiles – it all looks like it came straight out of a costume drama.

The many windows give the rooms wonderful light. The whole villa exudes a feeling of luxury and at the same time, because of the lovely sheltered garden, it also gives a secure feeling. The house has a penthouse which is ideal for an au pair, studio or as a guesthouse. The spacious villa also offers excellent opportunities for a home office or practice.

History

‘Villa Sonnewende’ is of architectural-historical importance because of its special construction history. The villa was built in 1905, designed by architect duo Schill & Haverkamp. The owners were not finished yet, because in 1913 Sonnewende underwent another renovation, this time under the supervision of the Amsterdam society architects Van Rossem & Vuyk. Around 1922, the Amsterdam architect S. van Bommel was allowed to do it all over again, and today his work is what typifies Villa Sonnewende: the symmetrical layout, the imposing portico with the columns and the iconic grey-white plaster on the outside.
